| Austin's Palmer Auditorium has served the city well in its more than fifty years of existence -- hosting conventions, rock concerts, theatrical performances, and public events. The framework of the building will breathe new life as the Long Center for the Performing Arts, Austin's new home for opera, symphony, and ballet. The reinforced concrete ring beam that supported the original domed roof of the auditorium will feature prominently in the new building design, serving as a modern colonnade that defines the 'front porch' of the Long Center. | |||||||||||
