Texas Cowboys Pavilion

LOCATION Austin, Texas
AREA 2,400 sf
COST $1,200,000
ARCHITECT Miró Rivera Architects
Located next to the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center on the University of Texas campus in Austin, the Texas Cowboys Pavilion extends the possible uses of the alumni facility by serving as an outdoor gathering space amid the trees along Waller Creek. The expressive structure is referential in form to existing trellises nearby, evoking the head of a majestic longhorn steer. Cantilevered steel beams and trusses form a delicate canopy over a sturdy, triangular plate girder that forms the Pavilion's central spine. Flanking Darrel K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium, the Pavilion functions as a location for pre-game and post-game events, as well as lectures and presentations. Integral fans, indirect lighting, and roll-down sunshades allow use of the pavilion year round and at any time of day.
